Well, hello there! Here I am yet again with another post on how not to make certain things. I believe in learning from mistakes, hence this post. Although these didn’t come out as bad as my Oreo Churros, these cookies didn’t exactly look like the picture:

These look so amazing, don’t they? So, let’s get started with this post.

A few days back, I went over to a friend’s whom I hadn’t seen a while. Since it wasn’t a great day to walk in the city, we thought we’d go over to her place and bake. She’d been meaning to make these and thought we could do it together.

We followed the recipe to the dot except for the 5th step. We ignored the fact that the cookie mixture didn’t seem dough-like enough. The fact that we thought it was odd that the cookie dough didn’t have to go in the fridge. We pulled through and had faith in the recipe like no other. We believed in the recipe and oh, the taste definitely paid off.

Ingredients (taken exactly from Bethcakes):

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1¼ cup sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla — we might have added a wee bit more because who doesn’t love vanilla?
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2¼ cups all purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • Birthday Cake Oreos (or your fave Oreos) — we ended up using regular Oreos because they didn’t sell the Birthday Cake Oreos where we were.
  • Garnish: chocolate drizzles and sprinkles! — to be honest, we completely forgot about this part at the end. We were so baffled by the end result we couldn’t think of anything else.

We then followed roughly the instructions:

We preheated my friend’s mini oven to 180 C and line the baking sheet with baking paper.

Next we creamed the butter with an electric mixer and added the sugar and vanilla. This already smelled so heavenly!

We added the eggs and mixed well after each, of course. Next came the flour, baking soda and salt. This was also added carefully in doses since we didn’t want flour to blow up in our faces. And not to mention the space we had! Since the power outlet was near the TV we were forced to mix all the ingredients next to the beautiful TV. So, we really had to be careful. We mixed it all together until it was all nicely incorporated. We also decided to add some fun to the mixture since we couldn’t find Birthday Cake Oreos. We added some sprinkles to the mixture itself! 2016-03-25 17.14.41

Now, this step we did a little differently, which may have contributed to the outcome. According to Bethcakes we had to divide the cookie dough in half and press one half into the baking tray and arrange the Oreos over the dough. Then top the Oreos over with the rest of the cookie dough.

On the other hand, what we did was we covered each individual Oreo in cookie dough and placed that on the baking tray. This basically led to the cookie dough seeping off the Oreo cookie and making it look like a cookie puddle around cookie dough covered Oreo.

This should bake for 25-30 minutes or until the cookie dough is golden brown on top. After the cookies (or one large cookie) has been cooled, then they can be cut into squares and enjoyed.

The last optional step was to drizzle the cookies with melted chocolate and cover with sprinkles.

This was our result:

Although it looked like one big cookie with cracks and bumps, it smelled and tasted amazing! There’s no doubt about how much we enjoyed devouring these.

Unfortunately, I had to leave right after the first batch and my friend continued baking the next batch after I left. We decided to try cupcake holders in order to avoid the cookie dough melting to the bottom of the Oreo. She sent pictures of how they turned out:

These looked a lot more like the picture on Bethcakes! All in all, the recipe was great so props to Beth! Be sure to head on over to her blog and check out the recipe! Because although we got it wrong, and it looked nothing like the picture, they were absolutely delicious! The perfect cookie with the bonus of Oreos!

Moral of the story: Not everything may look perfect but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t taste amazing! And also, you know, try following the instructions to the dot before you end up with a puddle of cookie dough.

Let me know if you’ve tried this recipe out!

Smile because holy crap YUM!
